Stabilisation Systems - Introduction

From steering to ride control and stabilisation...

Ship Dynamics' stabilisation systems are modular and can be applied to any ship motion control application including steering.

If it moves then it can probably be controlled by a Ship Dynamics control system.

Holistic approach to stabilisation...

It is not always sensible to consider a vessel's steering, trim control and stabilisers as separate systems when they all influence the same ship.  On some ships there is a strong coupling between the roll and yaw motions that cause the motion in one degree of freedom to influence the motion in the other.  Despite this, steering, trim and stabilisation systems are often considered separate supplies when offered for retrofit or new vessels.  Under these circumstances steering systems lack the response rate and dynamic control required of a stabilisation system, whilst stabilisation systems lack the robustness and fault tolerance of a steering system. Yet some stabilisation systems have more force authority than the primary steering system.

Ship Dynamics' modular approach to stabilisation allows the integration of both new and existing equipment into a single system.  Every device connected to a Ship Dynamics system is treated in a consistent manner, irrespective of its location or type of influence.  No longer does there need to be a differentiation between ship stabilisation, steering and manoeuvring when it comes to a ship installation supplier.  Every force matters in hull control and is integrated with harmony to the other components.

Standard component groups...

No two ship systems are necessarily the same, but this does not mean that the functional requirements of certain components cannot be considered similar.  Therefore, components that have similar functional requirements have been grouped into standard building blocks.  These are

  1. Stabilising devices that generate force;
  2. Hydraulic components that provide motive power for stabiliser movement, and
  3. Control components that generate the command signal and manage the system.

Selection and implementation of each component into a system is supported with the experience and skills of our engineering services team.

Integration with existing components...

Open architecture control and extensive use of off the shelf components gives Ship Dynamics' systems the best prospect of integrating with third party systems and equipment.  In most cases the control system can be integrated with existing components, whether or not they were supplied by Ship Dynamics.

This provides flexibility in your choice of equipment whilst using a Ship Dynamics control system. However, Ship Dynamics can also provide for your equipment needs when required.

Access the enabling technology...

All Ship Dynamics' products are manufactured to order, so they can be tailored to the specific requirements of each project.  This customisation extends to the control systems, hydraulics and stabilising devices to meet requirements.

Ship Dynamics is able and willing to provide the enabling technology that will allow you to complete your own project, whether only the control system is needed or to include additional components to an existing system. Ship Dynamics can also develop specific Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) products for proprietary use.

Acquire only the components required or alternatively receive a full turn key solution. The choice is yours.

Partnering with the best...

Ships Dynamics is a component integrator of various technologies.  It aligns itself with the best component suppliers and manufacturers that produce to its designs.  This arrangement maintains access to the most current technologies and expertise across a range of disciplines.

Ship Dynamics has long standing relationships with key companies involved in casting, machining, fabrication, control, automation, electronics and hydraulics.  When you access the expertise of Ship Dynamics you also access the experience and know how of its technology partners.
